Day 1- Marrakech
Fly to Marrakech direct from the UK. Arrive in Marrakech and transfer to the charming, riad-style hotel Ksar Anika.
Day 2 - Marrakech
After breakfast take an optional half day tour to visit the historic sites of old Marrakech including the impressive Almohad Koutoubia Minaret; the Menara Gardens; the lavishly-decorated Saadien Tombs; the Badii Palace and the labyrinth of narrow alleys which make up the renowned souqs finishing your tour in the vibrant Jemaa el Fna Square. Lunch and afternoon at leisure or you can choose to extend your tour to a full day tour including lunch. Overnight in Marrakech.
Day 3 - Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Zagora – Oulad Driss – Erg Lihouidi
Depart early in your 4WD vehicle to be driven south over the Glaoua Plain crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Continue to the ex-French Foreign Legion town of Ouarzazate before driving through the dramatic Valley of the Oued Draa to the oasis town of Zagora. From here you drive deep into the sub-Saharan desert through sand dunes until reaching the tiny village of Oulad Driss. Continue by dromedary camel to the dunes of Erg Lihouidi, arriving in time to watch the spectacular sunset. Stay overnight in tented accommodation or under the stars if you prefer.
Day 4 - Erg Lihouidi – Ait Isfoul – Tamegroute – Zagora
An early start to witness the sunrise before, once again mounting your camel to head off into the desert to rejoin your 4WD. Today you will visit many different desert communities from remote Jewish kasbahs to the ancient underground village of Tamegroute, a seat of learning since the 11th century. Travel on to the Fibule Du Draa. After lunch you will be free to swim, enjoy the oasis or explore this charming desert town.
Day 5 - Zagora – Fint Oasis – Ait Ben Haddou – High Atlas Mountains
Travel North to the Valley of 1000 Kasbahs and back on to the main road through the Draa Valley. Visit the magnificent oasis of Fint and the remarkable World Heritage Site, the Ksour of Ait Ben Haddou. Continue to your accommodation at the impressive Kasbah Angour in the High Atlas Mountains.
Day 6, 7 - High Atlas Mountains
Spend the day at leisure, exploring independently or take an optional ramble and sightseeing tour accompanied by a Moroccan mountain guide. These take approximately 5½ hours and should be suitable for anyone who leads a reasonably active life. They allow you to explore the stunning mountain scenery and gain an insight into the local Berber culture. Visit mountain fortresses, strongholds and villages and witness the age-old industries of salt-mining and olive oil pressing. Overnight in high Atlas Mountain.
Day 8 - Return to Home
Transfer from the High Atlas Mountains to Marrakech for your flight back to home.
