Athens is quite simply one of those cities which everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime. It is an iconic world city at the heart of Western civilisation.

Athens features in many of our cruise and tailor-made programmes on the preceding pages. It can also be visited as a stand-alone city break. Remember the holidays and prices in this website are given for guidance only. If you don’t see the holiday of your choice, we will be happy to provide you with a personalised quotation.

To help you to explore Athens’s many cultural and historic treasures we have put together a few nights’ city break combination with cruises or staying in one of the Greek Islands,  including a half days sightseeing tour accompanied by a professional English-speaking guide.

These are the highlights of the tours, and indeed of any visit to Athens:

Visit the centre of moden Athens including Constitution Square, the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier and the National Library. See the Evzones in their picturesque uniform and the Presidential Palace. On your way to the Acropolis you will see Hadrian’s Arch, the Temple of Olympian Zeus and make a short stop at the Panathenaic Stadium where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896.

On the Acropolis you will visit the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion and finally, the Parthenon itself. Visit the place where at last the statues found their home and admire the wonders of the classical era at the Acropolis museum.

Connections

There are regular ferry and/or catamaran services from the port of Athens, Piraeus to Heraklion (Crete), Kos, Rhodes, Leros, Mykonos, Naxos, Patmos, Paros and Santorini and daily domestic flights to all of the Greek islands.
 

Transfers and Distances

Approx. 45 minutes’ transfer from Athens International Airport to the city centre: approx. 1.5 hour’s transfer to the port of Piraeus or to Marina Zea.
