Welcome to Antalya & Belek
The old quarter of Antalya is the charming and atmospheric heart of Turkey's Mediterranean coast, with beaches to either side, and the designer golf resort of Belek nearby.
The picturesque old town of Antalya, known as 'Kaleici', literally 'within the citadel', is a maze of narrow winding strrets leading down to the harbour, in the shelter of the ancient city walls.
Antalya is one of Turkey's biggest towns and is the capital of the region. The old quarter, however, retains an authentic charm and peaceful ambiance, due mainly to the fact its narrow streets are traffic-free. It is the ideal place to soak up the atmosphere around the charming harbour. Traditional wooden gulets leave from here to explore the beautiful coast and its hidden caves.
Kaleici has its own small but attractive Mermerli beach, set to one side of Antalya harbour. Steep steps leading down the cliff reach the sunbathing terraces and sandy beach area. There are plenty of excellent restaurants here serving fresh fish, succulent kebabs and a range of local and international dishes. This really is a great choice for those who want a taste of the real Turkey.
For the active, there are plenty of watersports available from the larger sandy beach of Lara just outside the town as well as walking, climbing and caving in the surrounding mountains.
The region is one of great natural beauty, home to impressive waterfalls and unusual caves, and there is a wealth of history to explore in the vicinity. Historic sites include the ruins of the ancient cities of Pamphylia: Side, Perge and Aspendos, with its amphitheatre seating up to 15,000 people. Side is perhaps the most impressive, with its ancient wall city and stunning beachfront setting.
