spacious and lighter than many other riads, its warm sandstone colours immediately creating a welcoming impression. There is a refined but friendly atmosphere here created by the mainly female staff, that really makes you feel at home.
Situated at the foot of the ancient Kasbah walls, 200 yds from the Royal Palace, this friendly, informal but most professionally run property boasts a fine restaurant, a spa and good sized pool.
A peacefully intimate riad-style hotel with just 18 bedrooms, Les Borjs is set around attractive flower-filled courtyards, more.
Under British-French ownership, Les Borjs was constructed from 6 town houses and one riad over a period of 4 years and designed and furnished
in traditional Moorish Moroccan style with contemporary overtones in décor and furnishing, the work having been carried out by local craftsmen following age-old methods to ensure complete authenticity.
The excellent Le Jasmin restaurant serves a variety of mainly French-inspired cuisine and vegetarian dishes as well as a range of classic Moroccan specialities. Breakfast is a generous buffet with fresh fruit, viennoiseries, local pancakes and eggs cooked to order. Surrounded by bougainvillea and palms, the swimming pool, at the foot of ancient city walls, is perfect for cooling off after a day spent exploring the hot, dusty city – unlike many in the medina, which are little more than plunge pools, this is 10 x 5 metres and heated in winter. The poolside snack bar serves refreshing drinks and light meals – great if you’re looking for a light lunch.
Adjacent to the pool is the spa with its domed, marbled hammam and a range of treatments is available in the massage rooms at an additional charge.
This is one of the few hotels in Marrakech to operate a no-smoking policy in enclosed spaces.
In fact, Les Borjs applies a number of other policies to take account of its impact on the environment, in keeping with widely accepted standards relating to responsible tourism. It is not often that you can feel virtuous about staying somewhere so lovely!
With several ground floor rooms this property may be suitable for those with limited mobility.
