We partner with organizations working tirelessly to promote social justice, gender equality, and the eradication of poverty. Through these partnerships, we support communities, grassroots groups, activists, and social movements that empower people living in poverty and exclusion.
Our Approach
We believe in a human rights-based approach that puts people at the heart of change. We focus especially on women and girls, whose rights are too often denied—creating one of the root causes of poverty across the globe. By supporting initiatives that collaborate directly with communities, women’s groups, and local networks, we help tackle the deeper structural causes of poverty and injustice. Actionaid - Sponsor a Child
ActionAid believes that all children should have an equal chance to thrive.
Your sponsorship will make a huge difference to a girl or boy in need – ensuring they have enough to eat, an education and hope for the future.
As their only sponsor, you’ll have a special relationship with your sponsored child. You’ll receive photos, handwritten messages and regular updates from their community.
You can choose where you sponsor a child, as well as their age and gender - or you can leave it to our team to decide; they know which communities are in greatest need. It only takes a few minutes to become a child sponsor, but you could change a child’s life forever.

ActionAid history
ActionAid was founded in 1972, when we started working with local communities in India and Kenya. Our programmes focused on meeting local needs in areas including education, health and livelihoods.
We were one of the first UK charities to offer child sponsorship , and we have been transforming the lives of children and their families ever since.
In the 1980s we shifted the focus of our work to tackling the root causes of poverty as well as meeting people’s immediate needs. We realised that in order to create lasting change we had to look at the reasons why people are poor. We support people from poor and marginalised communities to challenge injustice and claim the rights they are entitled to.
We also work with local communities to improve livelihoods, increase access to water, gain access to basic healthcare and find new ways of making a living.
Today we work with more than 15 million people living in more than 40 of the world’s poorest countries.
