Island of Bol

Welcome to Island of Bol

Bol, the oldest town on the coast of Brac, is located on the southern part of the island. This charming town, founded long ago, has become a popular tourist destination due to its expansive 10-kilometer-long gravel and sandy beaches and sources of drinking water. The crown of Bols hills, including the Illyrian fortress Kostilo (660m) and the highest peak of the Adriatic islands, Vidova gora (778m), rise above Bol. The magnificent Zlatni rat beach, considered the most beautiful beach on the Adriatic Sea, is a must-visit and offers a unique experience as its cape turns from one side to another, playing with the wind and waves. Bol is conveniently located just 15km away from the international tourist and sports airport "Brac," and is well-connected to the coast via fast lines and a ferry-line from Supetar.

It fascinates with crystal clear water, wonderful nature and the virgin beauty of the stony island houses the Croatian poet Tin Ujevicsung about. This little town has kept its Mediterranean spirit. The narrow, stony little roads and the wide piazzetas are simple and typically mediteranneous noisy.

Sightseeing

Vidova Gora (Vidova mountain)

The highest peak of Adriatic arhipelago (780m).

The hiking trail from Gospa Karmelska in Bol lasts for 2 hours, but meny prefer road path (18km): Supetar - Nerežišca - Knežeravan (with sheperd stops - specially recommended to see the one in Gažul) - Vidova Gora.

This path alows you to see all varietes of Brac nature with endemic types of black boron trees.

Pustinja Blaca (Monastery Desert Blaca)

Pustinja Blaca, once famous desert of monks, and later observatory, is situated on the east part of the valley on the south side of Brac island, between Bol and Milna.

Easy aproach is possible trough the wide road from Blato bay or by footpath from the middle of the island trough Nerezisca, Zurmo (old christian watering place for horses and mules), and Dragovode (with houses of old Brac sheperds).

In the cave called Ljubitovica in the steep valley on the south side in 1551., 2 priests from Poljica have established an place which soon evolved in to the desert monastery. Among 11000 books in monastery library, most of them are written before 1800. and the archive shows that trough generations data was collected carefully including economics and everyday field work, the beggining of plant growth, harvesting, climate changes etc.

Blaca has preserved its inventory, today presented in the museum. Particulary valuable is the astronomical legacy of the last Blace desertman (priest) don Niko Milicevic.

Skrip

Skrip is the oldest settlement on the Island of Brac (the name is latin "scrupus" = sharp large stone).

Under the settlement there are well known quarries Plate, Strazisce and Rasohe where the stone was collected for the Salona and Diocletian palace, with the protection from Heraklo. There were also masonry workshops there from the later antic times which distributed characteristic sarchophagus from Ravenna to Akvilej..

From Skrip quarries ther was black marble collected and church furniture was made throughout Dalmatia. There were big blocks lifted and transferred to the port of Splitska where still in these days, monumental blocks can be seen as leftowers which fell to the sea. Around the picturesque castle of Radojkovic (there is a museum of Brac with archeological findings of Brac tools), there are good remains of walls which surrounded Iliric settlement (8000 m2 area).

The founding od Mikenic ceramic opens the possibility of Greek colonization, and lot of churches and basilics make a Skrip unique place which gives us insight in all historical ages and thousands of years of life continuity on Brac.

"A week's trip on Perla del Mar captained by Mustafa, with chef Dohan, and crew Cem, Emre and Meric turned out to be the best family holiday we had ever booked. Akin's recommendation of the boat was spot on. Dohan's menu and cooking was absolutely excellent. The crew went out of their way to assist us at every opportunity and their care and attention to the children on the trip was exemplary. There wasn't a single fault that on the whole trip, the transfers worked perfectly, the crew were there to greet us at Marmaris and led us through the alleys to the waterside where the amazing boat in front of us was to be ours for a week. We were all taken aback and realised that Mum's mad dream was coming to fruition. A holiday found by google, sold to us by Akin who took the trouble to explain everything turned out to be beyond the dreams of all of us. Canoeing in quiet coves, swimming and snorkelling to our hearts content then served with drinks and snacks before amazing meals and enjoying the trips between coves became the order of each day. I can firmly recommend this holiday to anyone. It was simply amazing." Christine - 25 May 2025

" We went to Diamond Star experience because they offer multi-centre holidays and had good ratings. We were in no way disappointed with what was organised. We said that we wanted a few days in Athens and then a week on a relatively quiet island. Akin made a proposal (Athens then Naxos) and then, when we agreed, organised everything. The Athens hotel was central and accessible to the main sites and to restaurants, and was of very good quality. The choice of Naxos for the island was equally good and we stayed in an excellent three star hotel on the edge of the town within easy reach of the beach and restaurants. All transfers were efficiently organised and even when there was a transport hiccup (our fault!) there was a phone call from the Athens back-up team within the hour to find out what had happened.
Thank you very much, Akin and staff, for a really enjoyable holiday and for service which can be easily be recommended.
