Known as ‘the golden island’, Sipan is the largest of the Elafiti islands. It has a charming atmosphere with its quaint stone houses, grand mansions and ornate churches.
Sipan is the kind of place where your imagination can run riot - it is a fairytale island of olive groves, vineyards and abandoned monasteries and crumbling mansions.
During Ragusa’s golden age, it was popular as a summer retreat for the city’s wealthy merchants, many of whom built grand summer residences here. It is fascinating to wander amongst them now and wonder about their history and the people who once lived in them. These days there are fewer than 500 inhabitants of idyllic Sipan and the pace of life here is much more laid-back. It is a haven for holidaymakers who want to relax and get away from it all. There are two main centres on the island at opposite ends - Sudurad, where Hotel Bozica is located, and Sipanska Luka.
